An Accessible Festival

At Journeys Festival International, we believe the arts should be open to everyone. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive and accessible festival, ensuring that as many people as possible can enjoy and participate in our events.

Website Accessibility Tools

Our website includes accessibility support through Recite Me, a tool that makes browsing easier for everyone. With Recite Me, you can customise the way you view and interact with our site, including text-to-speech, translation into over 100 languages, adjustable font sizes, colour contrasts, and more.

The Highfields centre in Leicester.

11. Highfields Centre

Highfields Centre has a ramped entrance, a service lift, and accessible toilet facilities. Assistance animals are welcome.

Assistance Dogs

All venues welcome assistance dogs. Some venues may require proof that any dog is registered with an organisation that is a member of Assistance Dogs UK. Please see the venues’ access pages for more information about their assistance animal policy. 

Bookable Access Facilities

Free tickets for one Personal Assistant / Essential Companion are available for all events, for anyone who requires extra support for reasons of disability.

Our Eventbrite pages: 1 free Personal Assistant / Essential Companion ticket is available per order via a discount code. Please see our individual ticketing pages for instructions on how to secure your PA ticket.

Venues handling their own tickets may require proof to support your request.  

Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre– free tickets for an essential companion are available during the booking process. 

The Y Theatre – free tickets for an essential companion are available through their Access Scheme. 

Curve – free tickets for an essential companion are available by contacting their box office directly.

Medical Services

We will have 4 first aiders roaming on site at all times. Venue staff are also trained in first aid. During the outdoor performances on Saturday 24 October, additional medical staff will be roaming on site.

Access to Performance

All events at this year’s festival are wheelchair accessible. Please see below for specific information about accessible performances.

Bad Immigrant – Touch tour available 90 minutes before the show (no need to book, just turn up), creative captions available.

The Hideout – Speech free performance suitable for SEND children or children with additional needs. Visual story available here.

The Luckiest Girl Alive – Signed Performance with BSL interpreter Rachel Jones.

The Balloon Garden – Easy Read resource available on site.

None of our events include strobe lighting.
